Into this tumult enters Dominic (Von's homecare patient) with a bad infection. Charlotte and Gabrielle soon discover the culprit is poor follow-up wound care. Gabrielle alerts Von so she can track down the negligent staff member responsible. But Von's reaction puzzles and angers Gabrielle. It turns out Von was the nurse who avoided Dominic and she won't give a satisfactory reason for her actions.
Gabrielle is lead to suspect Dominic may have assaulted Von, and that Von is covering up so Dominic will not be sent into care. Von denies this but Gabrielle won't let it go. Finally Von tells Gabrielle the cause of her problem, and it involves a terrible secret she's been carrying with her for thirty seven years. A secret that will have an impact on Von's very future in the ED.
