The MRU are called out to attend an MVA and a difficult patient. Hard knocks in the ring have resulted in brain damage for the old boxer. Katerina shows incredible patience in dealing with Barney as she discovers a history of pain and suffering and great love. The accident has caused Barney damage to his one remaining kidney and his long suffering son offers to donate one of his. But what appears to be a simple solution uncovers a family secret which threatens to break up father and son and lead to the possible death of Barney. Katerina’s own great losses come to light as she tries to explain human frailties and strengths to the son.

Jo’s boyfriend, Declan, is preparing for a dangerous stunt on a movie set. Prompted by Mike, she tries to convince him that he should have a thorough medical before continuing his career as there is every likelihood he has M.S. Her expectations of a disastrous outcome to the stunt do not come to fruition, justifying Declan’s denial that there is anything wrong with him. His denial leads to a confrontation. But it also prompts Jo to face her own fears when it comes to diagnosing a disease which could shorten her own life.

A stroke victim who has no chance of recovery has Adam and Von having to deal with the woman’s two daughters who cannot agree on their mother’s care. One wants them to do everything to keep her mother alive; the other is desperate to let her go peacefully. Unless the two agree, the case will need to go to the Guardianship Board and one of the daughters will be very unhappy. During these difficult dealings, Von realises that there should be no battle over Adam between herself and Debra.

Charlotte is forced to bring in Zac for a couple of hours and an off-duty Bart becomes his main baby-sitter. Amy sees another side of Bart who expresses his desire to have a large family; something Amy isn’t planning on doing for quite some time. And the realisation that this is possibly where the relationship is heading, to put it bluntly, scares the shit out of her.
